Celebrating 115 years: 1910 – 2025
The Wenatchee Apollo Club was formed in 1910 when Stuart Hyatt assembled 14 young men to organize a group to sing for their enjoyment, mental and social well-being, and to enrich community life. That was just 18 years after the city itself was chartered! The Wenatchee Apollo Club has been intact and has performed continuously since that time, except for a hiatus during World War II and during the 2020/2021 Covid-19 lockdown.
We believe that we are the longest performing male chorus in the Pacific Northwest, and one of very few in the nation to have such longevity. We are independent, not associated with any religious or political group, and are an IRS-501-C-3 Non-profit Organization.
The mission of the Wenatchee Apollo Club is fourfold:
- To provide the opportunity for men to assemble to sing for their own enjoyment, for mental health benefits (memory maintenance, social needs, etc.), and for their emotional well-being;
- To provide men the opportunity to develop their vocal skills so that they may perform for the public,
- To provide Wenatchee and its neighboring communities with a men’s choral group where members act as ambassadors of good will enhancing community life while providing the public with musical performance options.
- To gather sufficient funds from donations, funding activities, or musical performances to provide annual college scholarships to local students who have been involved in school or community musical activities and seek to further their music experience by majoring or minoring in a school’s defined music program. (see the ‘About Us’ page for more information.) Click here to help support this scholarship program by donating with PayPal. The Apollo Club needs more voices
The Apollo Club is always in need of additional voices. Please consider joining our group. You don’t need to read music, though it helps. You only need to be able to carry a tune in the men’s voice range. You don’t need to be a pro. Many studies exist proving that music participation, especially singing or playing an instrument provides mental health benefits for memory, stress relief, and other perks. If you recognize these benefits and would like to participate with us, send us a note on the ‘Contact Us’ page. We start up in early September and end the performance year the end of May the following year. We practice Tuesday evenings at 7pm, in the choir room at East Wenatchee’s Eastmont Jr. High School. Come, sit in, and observe our practice to see if you have an interest in associating with us and improving yourself mentally and socially.
